An anime adaptation of the series began airing on TV Asahi in 1992 and is still ongoing on several television networks, worldwide. The show has now been dubbed in 36 languages,[1] which aired in 45 countries.[2]

This is a list of episodes dubbed in English by phuuz entertainment in 2003. 52 23-minute episodes (156 5 to 7-minute segments)[3] were dubbed by Phuuz with a different voice cast than Vitello used. Episodes with segments out of their original Japanese order are indicated by an additional segment number. Some titles of Phuuz episodes are only in French and German because the English title is unknown.

Shin Chan is an American adaptation of the Japanese anime television series Crayon Shin-Chan. It was produced by Funimation with a total of 78 episodes. 6 episodes were aired on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block starting in August 21, 2006, and the rest of the 20 episodes of season 1 aired in 2007. Season 2 aired on Adult Swim in 2008. A third season was produced and released to the Hulu/FunimationNow services in 2011.

The series used slightly modified Japanese names of most of the major characters (except for Kazama, who is renamed Georgie Prescott, and Nene, who is renamed Penny Milfer). Episode segments were selected from different Japanese episodes, and scripts rewritten and localized. The show focused on more mature themes and dark humor, and was described as more of a "gag dub".[6]

The opening theme is "Shin-chan Theme" which is a shortened version of the third opening theme in the Japanese show. The closing theme is "Party Join Us", and is based on the fifth ending theme from the Japanese show. It is sung in English by voice actress Brina Palencia.[citation needed]

After Adult Swim dropped the broadcasting rights to Shin Chan, this season was made available on Hulu, FunimationNow and on home media. The first four episodes were released on Hulu on May 31, 2011 and every Friday through July 26.[13] The first 13 episodes were released by July 26, 2011.[13] The second 13 episodes were released on September 27, 2011.[14]

Remember watching Shin Chan on Fox Kids? Well, I saw an episode that was so disturbing that it prevented me from watching Fox Kids again. I remember my mum recording it for me back in 2003, which was when I was 11 years old. I remember coming home from school to watch it on the recorded tapes. I popped one of them in because I couldn't wait to watch it.

When I popped the tape in, there was a black screen of silence for 20 seconds, which made me feel uneasy. Afterwards, the Shin Chan intro started, but the picture was zoomed in, and the audio sounded rather weird. The lyrics only had the "Say hey! HEY! Shin Chan!" parts, and the rest of it was instrumental. Also, the only characters to appear in it were Shin, Daisy, and Lucky, who pretended to smile, but their eyes made it obvious that they we ren't. It also had a big black Fox Kids screen bug instead of the usual small red and yellow one, which I found rather strange.

After this weird intro, there is a title card saying "Shin's Real Life" written in "Arial" font (IN ALL CAPS) instead of the usual font, on a picture of Shin's house, but the one in the title card isn't the one you would expect. It instead looked like one of the houses that a poor person would have. The windows and doors were cracked, and the walls were literally made out of gray stones. Then Shin appears without any clothes, except for his "elephant".

Shin then goes inside and asks "What's to eat-a, mamacita?". He then imitates Mitsy by saying "How would you like a noogie sandwich?". Then, Shin runs into the fridge and gets banged in the head. He then goes and plays in his room with a Barbie doll resembling Daisy. The doll then says "Hi, wanna play with me?", and Shin replies "Mom! Daisy made a mess again!". "Mitsy" then appears to give Shin a noogie, and there was literally blood pouring out of Shin's head, which I found very gross.

Shin then goes downstairs to watch a "Masked Muchacho" episode, and the TV was an old television from the 1980's with a cracked screen. Shin takes out a Captain America toy and puts it up near the TV, and uses it to imitate the Masked Muchacho, then he shows a Skeletor toy without any clothes (not even a hand staff), and uses it to imitate a villain (If you don't know who "Skeletor" is, he's the villain from He-Man). Afterwards, "The Masked Muchacho" "defeats" the "villain", who gets stuck inside the TV while Shin does "The Bare-Butt Boogie". Afterwards, "Harry" comes into the room on an old 1940's bicycle with a flat tire. Shin then tells "Harry" that he lost his toy, and then Shin touches the TV and cuts his hand, afterwards, the TV falls on Shin and kills him.

The next day, there was a funeral at Shin's school. Mr. Enzo says that "Shin was a nice student, and it's a shame he died". Cosmo then says "I feel bad for him too, even after all the things he did to me". The funeral went on for a few more seconds, and then the episode ended without any credits, instead, it cut to the aforementioned black screen from the beginning of the tape. This tape scared me for life, and I destroyed my entire Fox Kids tape collection, I am never going to forget about this episode no matter how many brain cells I lose.

As Crayon Shin-chan is a very popular anime and manga series, there are many one-time references (parodies) to the series in other manga and anime. Other characters have also made one-time cameos in the Crayon Shin-chan series as well.

Shin-chan uses Frieza's mask and acts like Frieza in volume 1. In volume 10, Misae is calling for Shin-chan while he is watching a parody of Dragon Ball Z, Shinnosuke is disobedient and doesn't answer and Misae ends up attacking him with a Kame-hame-ha-like energy attack.

The protagonist is 5 years old and also makes an obvious reference to Shinchan in episode 3 showing Milk-chan watching Shin-san ("Mr. Shin" is the translation) on TV, an adult version of Shinnosuke who wants to play with children even though he is a mature man.

In the Crayon Shin-chan series, the show Bishoujo Gundan Sailor Mufoon H probably aired on TV Asahi, since a Sailor Mufoon advertisement could be seen in one of the TV Asahi offices when Shin-chan and his mother were there in one episode. The main character of the show was also called "Sailor Mufoon." Sailor Mufoon characters wore tiaras and outfits resembling Minako Aino's first sailor fuku, and made speeches that sounded similar to Sailor Moon's. When Sailor Mufoon made her speech, dango on sticks could be seen in the background, as a reference to Sailor Moon's odango hairstyle.
