Hi All,
This month we'll be reading the highly touted "Year of Living
Biblically" by AJ Jacobs. This is a nonfiction recount of Jacobs' year
spent following the literal directives of the bible in order to
achieve a greater level of spiritual enlightment. His wit and
narrative style have been likened to Bill Bryson--I think this will be
a fantastic way to lift our mood as we enter into autumn.
Now for the twist: If you'd prefer a novel for your September read,
some book club members will also be devoting the first half of the
month to reading March by Geraldine Brooks and we invite you to join
us. March is Brooks' interpretation of John March's campaign to aid
the Union cause through America's Civil War. If you're a true fan of
classic American Literature, you already know John March: he's the
father of Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy. Yes, Brooks has created a sequel, or
perhaps prequel, to Louisa Mae Alcott's "Little Women", which has been
widely, WIDELY acclaimed in its two years in publication. I strongly
urge you to pick this book up now or later, and as I said we'll be
discussing it within the next two weeks and posting thoughts on the
website for anyone interested.
I can't wait to see posts and thoughts beginning to appear on these
two works. Happy reading!
