Hi Everyone,
Last week I wrote to introduce you to the Dublin
Book Club international website. We've had a fantastic response--people
from every US time zone are now reading along with us as well as folks
here in Dublin and in the UK. Be proud to be part of an international
group of readers and thinkers!
Folks are already posting to the site about John Banville's The
Sea, so I wanted to be sure that everyone is able to start posting!
Here's a brief how-to on posting to google messageboards:
Think of the site as a virtual corkboard for posting
messages for everyone to read. You can read notes, respond to a message author, respond to
everyone who is reading the board, or post a brand new message for
everyone to see.
1. Start at the site, which is
http://groups.google.com/group/dublinbookclub?hl=en
2. Only members can post. Become a member by clicking "Join This Group"
in the righthand column. Choose your settings for the group: You can
read posts by visitng the site or you can choose to have posts emailed
directly to you to read in your inbox. Change your settings any time in
"Edit My Membership" in the righthand column.
2. In "Discussions" section, browse the messages that other people have posted by clicking on their titles.
3. To respond to a post (which I STRONGLY encourage you to do as often as you like), click "reply" on the
bottom of the message. if you wish to reply only to the author, you may
click "reply to author". Be warned that replying only to author stunts
conversation--in a real book club the discussion is held between
all members, and I'd like to encourage this as much as possible on the
site.
4. If you have a fresh thought or idea, create a new post by clicking
"+ new post" on the homepage. Also, you can send an email to
dublinb...@googlegroups.com, and this will post your message on the site.
There's a picture attached of where you click to post. Let me know if
you have any problems posting! Please forward this to anyone who you've
invited to join the group. :)
Happy reading,
Kate
