Hey guys, any virtual environments enthusiasts want to join in for an
Open Simulator or Open Wonderland team? Give us a shout if you do!

cheers,
José

I've always been interested in these sorts of virtual worlds. There's so much more that can be done with them.
Count me in!

David, great stuff!

Do you have much experience with any of the solutions? Open Wonderland
is a lot more powerful but not sure how much Java we can write in less
than 8 hours. For OpenSim we can use LSL which is rather limiting, but
we might get more done... what you think?

Any artists would be really welcome too!

cheers,
José

Hey José,

I haven't used either of those environments before, I'll try to give one a spin before the event start. I'm familar with Java but I might be able to pick up LSL pretty quickly.

Regards,
David

Hey David,

the whole Wonderland framework is a bit complex, plus if we need to
add stuff like physics or something like that, it might takes us the
whole day... LSL is pretty simple, just a state machine and a not too
long set of functions. The second life wiki
(http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LSL_Portal) is good even if we are
using Opensim... I'd say we have a better chance to get something done
in 8 hours with that, but mind you, I haven't used it in years.
There's an eclipse plugin here: http://lslplus.sourceforge.net/
doesn't seem to be maintained anymore though...

cheers,
José

right guys, so are we going ahead with this? if so we would need a bit
of organisation... platform, tools, and that kind of stuff.
If not I'll be around on Saturday if anyone needs a dev.

cheers,
José

I haven't had time to really look at the tools involved. I'm still
interested, but I will be a bit handicapped by not having used the
tools before.

Anyway, if we can't decide in advance, we'll meet on the day and make
our final decision then.

Regards,
David

the problem will be access to the technology itself; if we need to
install OpenSim in our machines and all that stuff it will take us
half of the 8 hours. Not sure we will have access to an external
server (depending on wifi). Shall we leave it then?

cheers,
José

Hi Jose/All,

As per email that you have received recently about prepping for the event, please install required tools before you head to the event. Given that there's over 200 people gather in one place, there's no guarantee that the wifi access to the interwebs will be good.

Cheers,

/// Vicky

Vicky, that's my point exactly, not only for availability of wifi but
also for time.

cheers,
José

I doubt I'll be home at 7 tonight but if I am I'd be happy to do this
cause it's a great idea!
