Microsoft recently announced a set of policies that will govern the use of the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace.

A clause in the Microsoft Marketplace Guidelines bans all nudity, suggestion of sexual activity, depictions or suggestions of prostitution and many other restrictions.

The explicit language forbidding explicit content:

“Images that are sexually suggestive or provocative, Content that generally falls under the category of pornography, or Content that a reasonable person would consider to be adult or borderline adult content.”

Clause 3.6 of the Windows Phone Application Certification Requirements is quite explicit and states:

Adult Related Content – Content not allowed:

• Sex / Nudity – Images that are sexually suggestive or provocative (e.g. sexually provocative touching,
• bondage, masturbation); provocative images that reveal nipples, genitals, buttocks, or pubic hair.
• Content that a reasonable person would consider to be adult or borderline adult content (images, text,
• or audio).
• Content that generally falls under the category of pornography.
• Content that depicts or suggests prostitution.
• Content depicting sexual fetishes.
• Content of a sexual nature depicting children or animals.

Its a great move especially  in light of the backlash that hit Apple for retroactively banishing nude content from the Apple App Store!
