Werecently purchased a new HP Pavilion Slimline with Windows 7 (64 bit?) and have transferred our Microsoft Dynamics RMS & all our hardware to the new computer...except we cannot get the receipt printer to work.
I tried copying the old OPOS driver files over from the previous computer & that did not work. I have tried downloading several different drivers none of which have worked & tried to run the installation set-up for the printer as well as assigning ports (though as I said really don't know what I am doing so have probably made it worse!).
We have tried using a parallel to usb cable & the current set up, if you can imagine, is from the old computer which goes parallel to ethernet to serial to which we added serial to usb cable & now at least the computer recgonizes that the printer is there...though it still will not print & still gives the OPOS driver not found error.
If it doesn't pass check health you may have bad cable, hardware or configuration talk with Epson before moving on to RMS configuration.*** If you used a factory supplied disk to install this printer uninstall it before doing any of the steps listed above please.*** I'm unsure if adapters are even supported you may want to invest in a expansion card that matches your printers cable.
I had a similar issue when setting up that printer this week. First, I had to go into the printers properties and make sure the printer was using the correct port. Then, go into the RMS Manager and make sure your registers printer has the Windows driver box ticked instead of the OPOS driver option.
ok...well, I completely uninstalled everything, removed all the old drivers etc & reinstalled the printer with the windows driver from above...but it still will not work. The test print page does not work & when I try to print a receipt from the POS I get "run-time error '380': Invalid Property Value
Thank you Jeff...interesting I was on epsons site trying to find these but could not? Even in there support area? The other links I found for windows drivers on other sites etc did not have windows 7! I will try this thank you!
If i go into Windows printer settings, my TM-T88III is the only printer that is showing, and has the default printer tick next to it.
So in Unicenta I've tried selecting Printer, and choosing Epson TM-T88III from the drop down list, when i try to print with this setting i actually get a pop up with unable to print receipt message.
Ive read somewhere else that the problem is the printer was plugged in before the drivers were installed meaning that windows created a registry for the printer that is incorrect, and a solution is to roll back windows.... surely this can't be right..... can it?
Im still having major problems with this, I've managed to get the printer to print out the receipts, but not using the built in epson settings in peripherals. I've had to use the setting - printer and chose the printer from the list. However - the printer is printing a large blank area first with ?0 printed in top left corner, then when it prints the part with the logo and amounts etc it prints very very slow. It is also not kicking the cache drawer out, its a brand new cash drawer. i will attach an image of the receipt.
The printer works fine when i do a test, it prints the test message very fast, and if i press feed again it prints all of the symbols etc very fast also, so i can only assume its a problem with the software or settings... please help, I'm weeks behind setting up the epos in the shop.
please note, it still also says...
Excellent! Found it, so everything is ok, cash drawer opens (found settings for that) but printer still printing very slow, its like it prints one line at a time like old dot matrix printers, test prints are lightning fast, is this something i need to change in opos or is there settings somewhere else?
Ive found on another topic on here that apparently its the serial interface thats the problem, some systems won't work properly with it, so I've ordered a parallel interface and cable, hopefully this will sort the issue. Fingers crossed!
Hello guys, I am new here and have a quick question that hopefully you will be able to answer:
It says above that Unicenta talks direclty to Epson receipt printer, so no drivers are needed, but what about other printers? I just bought cheap 58mm printer (no brand), just installed drivers and tested it, and it works on windows, but when add it to unicenta as printer and unicenta found POS58 as this printer, it does not print. Do I also have to delete drivers? But since it is not Epson, what do I chose then on Unicenta after drivers are deleted? Thank you in advance for the help!
From what I see in here, looks like adding hardware to Unicenta is not plug and play, but needs quite a bit of adjusting to be done?
Since I spend all day yesterday being very very confused and now knowing what to do, I would be very very thankful if you could advise me on this:
My usb 58mm printer is cheap and not serious, I have also bought customer display Digipos Wd-2030 which has RJ-45 cable (was thinking I will buy it, plug and off I go...), I found some info that displays like that ussually need to be inserted into printers like Epson Tm series (meaning I will need to return my cheap new printer and I believe it only has plug for drawyer to be inserted into it). Unless I can buy some kind of RJ-45 (I believe it is called ethernet plug) to usb adaptor, that would enable me to attach it straight to PC?
So lets say, I will get that new Epson printer and will attach display to it - Will I be able to set it up with Unicenta to runt both?
I haven't bought drawer yet, but will do soon, so what kind of connection will I need for it? USB to go straight to PC?
What about card reader - will it have to be connected to Unicenta as well?
My setup will be normal pc with Touchscreen monitor and the hardware above.
I am very new to this as you can see and tried looking for the answers in this forum, but could not find info regarding this setup and where everything needs to be connected..
Any help is much appreciated!
Why do you expect it to be "plug and play"?
Often it is but Point Of Sale hardware and software do a demanding job and are generally built to be robust in operation as well as performance so with that comes some complexity.
You shouldn't expect it to be as simple as consumer oriented hardware and software. If it is then so much the better, but some experience is always useful.
Another thing: uniCenta oPOS is free, open source software and you need to cut it some slack on your expectations.
I know it's not as slick to install and configure like some commercial software, but then again I don't have millions of pounds and a big dev' team. It's mostly me.
I want to propose that perhaps you should consider for a moment the amazing guys in our forums who impart their experience and knowledge to help others. They are awesome!
If you ask for help and guidance the right way then I guarantee they will respond.
Ask yourself this question: How do they know that?
So let's deal with your issues.
Firstly, if you haven't read the manuals. Then you should.
If you have read the manuals and don't understand. Then read them until you do.
If you don't have an understanding or experience with things like POS industry standards, Databases, COM ports and the like. Then you need to get some.
Is your kit what uniCenta oPOS says it can support? For example; Unless your printer is an Epson or compatible ESC/POS (even then there may be issues and beyond uniCenta oPOS control) then it may or may not work with uniCenta oPOS.
It sounds like you're on a learning curve, which I can appreciate, and you're feeling challenged right now. Don't give in. Persist!
I guarantee, if you do persist, you will feel great when you "crack" the problem. Feel justifiably proud of yourself too and put a notch on your belt of experience.
I'm going to throw you a challenge.
I bet you will not be back here in a month or two from now helping others to solve their issues.
If I lose. You get one hour of my time to support you with uniCenta oPOS.
Hello Jack and once again thank you for your reply and help,
Regarding plug and play - well all those hardware pieces are sold everywhere and I did know that they all come in different connection ports and require so much work to get it all set up, and that maybe not all of them might be suitable with one another or POS system...
Regarding giving you guys some slack - I have an absolutely huge respect for yourself for doing it all and not charging customers and helping thousand of business, as well the whole community in here which contributes hugely to make this system run, so no doubt I am very thankful that this system exists in the first place and there is much post install support! And in no way I wanted to make it sound that Unicenta is bad or something, I just said that is more complicated than I thought to get the hardware set up and requires quite a bit of technical knowledge.
Like I said, I was very confused over the last couple of days and under quite a bit of stress, as my store will open soon and I just realized that I yet have no idea how to get my POS system running and what hardware kits are suitable with each other (all those different connections and so on).
I have just read the hardware manuals, thank you! But still have same issues and to make it more confusing, this is what happened.
I started my printer this morning and out of nowhere it printed couple for receipts from Unicenta that I did few minutes ago, it was not a perfect print as looks like some size adjusting was needed, but it printed!! Printer POS58 (that is how it is called) had drivers installed and Unicenta Printer option was set up on 'Screen', meaning it showed those receipts under printer screen tab as well, but it only printed that time when I turned it on.. Now however, when I create receipt and receive payment, it does not print anything, nor it shows that it cannot print like it said yesterday, I even tried to set it up on printer screen again, but nothing comes up as receipt even there, so looks like receipts are not generated in the first place. Tried the button on the left when receiving payment (print receipt) but nothing creates receipt. I could also not find option for on or off, where those receipts could have been maybe switched off.
Regarding Customer display, it this one: =STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 , it stated cable Rj-45, unless it is wrong? So if infact connection is RJ-11 ( from ebay they look the same in pictures), how and where do I connect it? Maybe it is not even suitable for me? If printer is no good, I don't mind returning it and getting used EPSON TM-T88IV which states to be connected by RS-232, but just need to know if these are suitable.
Regarding experience, yes, I am with you, any experience is great for all of us, but at this moment when I so pressured with time and other very important things to get done for the shop, this is not the thing I want to spend days doing :(
