That's interesting. I actually make earnings charts and tokens for
games that don't have them. Why wouldn't you use the earnings chart?

<shrug> You'd have to ask someone who feels that way about it. I can tell
you that your friend Bruce never bothered to update his companies on it.

Most of the players I play with aren't motivated to adjust counters on the earnings track (or indeed adjust almost any other counter).  Unless you have at least one such player the earnings track, if supplied, is probably better left empty.  That's because many of the players I play with will believe that the position of any counter reflects reality, whether or not that counter has been moved recently, or indeed since the start of the game.

The utility of an earnings track varies greatly with the game.  In many games, more especially the older ones, the earnings of companies change only slowly with time and a historical record is a decent predictor of future earnings.  But in, e.g., 1846 the quantity of available rolling stock usually changes each round so earnings have to be calculated anew.  18west seems about median in this respect.

We assign the job to a player, just like the banker position.
