This patch (Now officially called a "Service Pack") was released 2
August 1998 and should be available from the usual outlets. It should be
available from the Check Point Partner Support page, if your reseller
doesn't already have a copy of it.

Don't ask me to post the Release Notes. I'll let someone else do that.
;-)

What platform was FW-1 loaded on?

Yeah, I noticed they are calling it a service pack, and they also mentioned hotfixes! Apparently the
programmers at CP are going to adopt the Microsoft paradigm. Hopefully they will have better QA then
MS has in the past with their service packs. Oh, a word of warning, all the patches are gzip'ed.
Kind of annoying for those who don't know what the .gz extension is. I may uncompress them for my
customers to lessen confusion and calls into our help desk.

Did they listen to the release notes that say you can install 3072 straight
over the top of 3.0b, or did they install over top of 3064, which was
installed over 3045?

I had some issues with mail not dequeueing from the SMTP security server's
spool directory on an NT 3064 installed (which was installed directly over
3.0b, no patches). The CP support folks asked if I had installed over 3.0b
directly, or over 3045.. Apparently there were issues if you went to 3064
without first stopping at 3045. Perhaps 3072 is the same way....

I apologize for omitting this info.

It was on a Windows NT 4.0 machine with SP3. I do not know if any
other patches were applied before they applied 3072.

I recently installed 3072 on 2 NT 4.0 SP3 machines that had 3.0b vpn+des
w/o any other patches.

Have had zero problems since the installation.

Will continue to test and will post updates.

Another caveat for the list,
The 3072 patch overwrites the control.map file. If you've made any changes to it, better back it up
before install. It was supposed to merge the file, but doesn't.

...as every patch did so far. Probably base.def is overwritten
without warning also ;-(
