I'm trying to set up Max 4000 stacking option so as to provide ISDN (MPP)
services to my subscribers.
From the max 4000 I can only configure MOD CONF -> ETHER -> STACKING OPTION
->
stacking -> enable
name -> test
udp port -> 5151
Are these settings enough ???
All my Max 4000 are spread across ~ 20 class c segments.
Is the stacking possible ??
May I know how these Max 4000 from different segments inter-communicated
with each other ???
In fact I've tried, it works !!!
The user using D-link (I hope I got the name right) is able to dial in and
get two channel up. But despite the fact that he can ping but cannot surf
the internet !!!
However, using the same configuration if one link is brought down the user
can surf again. Strange !!!
If the D-link dial into a same Max 4000 - as expected it works !!!
BTW, my patches used are not consistence ranging from 5.0Ap13eik.m40 -
5.0Ap42eik.m40.
Can anyone pls advise me on the configuration.
Thanks very much.
Regards,
Joe

Yes, as long as you have the same setting on all MAXen in the specific stack.

"segments"? As long as they have a common network (ethernets are all on the
same segment, or in the same class-C for example).
>Is the stacking possible ??
How many are you trying to put into a single stack?

From the FAQs: MAX units in a stack find each other using an Ethernet
multicast
packet. Since multicast packets are unlikely to cross a router, and high
traffic
demands created by a MP and MP+ calls, all members of a stack must reside
on the
same physical LAN.

Ping what? Where is the user's profile setup?

Yes.

That is a potential for problems. As I posted here a few days ago, we
HIGHLY recommend that all MAXen in a stack should be running the same
software level.

Hi there!
Can i know what is the recommended number of Max 4000 on a single stack?
Cheers!

Sajari,
There is a channel per MAX limitation of 40. In practice, this is not a
serious limitation, and the real limit is the ethernet bandwidth required
by stacking.
The MAX6000 with 100bT is much more capable for stacking.
Kind Regards,
dean
