Hey all – we changed some permissions on our cluster and I think this goofed up the password authentication for our gateway. I can now no longer login with any password (either default or the one we had set). I can disable password authentication in the dt-site but its unclear how to reset the password back to something functional. Please let us know if you can help. Thanks!

Can you try the following:

- disable password auth using dt-site.
- in the gateway go to Configure tab and "Security Configuration"
- change "Authentication Type" from None to Password
- This will restart the gateway and I think creates the default username-password that you can use to log in
- after this you can recreate other users etc

For "password" authentication type the data is stored in a file called "passwd" in the default config directory. If the old file is still around, it could be causing the problem you have? You can try deleting (after renaming/saving somewhere just in case) that file and repeat these steps to see if you are set up with the default username/password.

Ilya,

So the passwd file is not created when authentication is changed from None to "Password" but is included and copied by the installer. So the steps I described won't work.

You can do a fresh install (on a separate node) and copy the passwd file to your actual gateway node to overcome this issue. Or else I can send you the default passwd file and you can either overwrite that on the old passwd file or just copy the "dtadmin" line.

Also note that the file is also kept under HDFS (under /user/dtadmin/datatorrent/conf assuming root install). You can check if that file matches your local file system file. Also could your problem be related to HDFS permissions preventing access to the HDFS version?

Sanjay

If you could send the default file that would be helpful. HDFS permissions wouldn't be affected but the HDFS backup wouldn't have been updated.
