During our DST workshops Salil Konkar or perhaps Alito Sequeira had mooted that we have a Festival of DST films from the 1000s of DSTs that would be coming in from our students. Workshop participants were quite receptive to the idea. The basic idea is to display the DSTs from different colleges and perhaps we could also exhibit them to the general public.
This being the case it would be good if we start getting ready for it straight away. It might increase the enthusiasm of our students for making a DST. Who knows - we might be even encouraging new cinematic talent. It would also give people an idea that what we are doing is indeed worthy of being called great education!
Could we all get together and agree to organise and participate in this festival? Apart from a group to oversee the festival, it would be nice if one college takes charge of the nitty-gritty of the organizational work. This would include coordinating meetings and sending out circulars etc. So volunteers please take a step forward! Personally I think it would be nice if a Govt college takes this up as they are closer to the powers-that-be if we need their assistance than the aam aadmi and aurat.
The Moving Images Film Club has said that it would be willing to support the festival and there is also the possibility of getting Govt of Goa sponsorship through http://www.artandculture.goa.gov.in/content_item_disp.php (also see the attachments below). I'd guess they would help lay down the criteria for what sort of DSTs would be eligible to enter the festival (duration of DST, dos and don'ts of making DSTs, criteria for being selected,...) and help in getting good judges to choose the films to be exhibited.
I request at least one participant per college to volunteer and respond with suggestions.
