Dear All,

I am happy that Dr. R. Chandrasekhar has neatly followed the precedence started by me by circulating a summary report on the proceedings of the 4th MIGD-DM. I wish such reports are produced and circulated by the 2nd (AIT) and the 3rd (CMRIT) MIGDs-DM Coordinators. These will become good records eventually to concretize  the collective knowledge base that would develop among the participants and there will emerge few stronger research groups on topics of common interest.

Secondly, I did not see any mention in the summary of the 4th MIGD-DM regarding the circulation of the problems raised in the previous MIGDs. Regularly, problems posed by the participants in the MIGDs or those circulated separately among the wider members of the MIGD should be updated and copies made available on request from the participants at each MIGD. Any progress made on them should be presented by the participants in a separate session devoted to such developments.

I am very happy to note about the presentation made by Sudarshan Aiyengar of IISc, Bangalore. I am sure, the participants should be able to get themselves trained to use that software in their research and Mr. Sudarshan should be able to train few interested participants during or outside the MIGDs to use the softwares.

The offer of Christ University to conduct the 5th MIGD is most welcome and I wish more institutions would come forward to host these events of great potential to develop small groups of researchers engaged on specific problems in an intensive mode.

Do not hesitate to float your ideas, comments, problems, conjectures, algorithms, softwares developed, etc. in this google-group in which soon many foreign discrete mathematicians also may join, which can open new vistas for worldwide collaborative research involving young research scholars from Bangalore. You might notice from my previous communications (as also this one) that I have been already marking my emails to top experts in Discrete Mathematics like Thomas Zaslavsky, G.O.H. Katona, J. Nesetril, F.S. Roberts, P.J. Slater, S.T. Hedetniemi, G. Chartrand, M. Deza, Bit-Sun Tam, et al. and one of them has already responded (TZ).

Looking forward to your enthusiasm and systematic progress in research and with best wishes/regards, I remain
yours sincerely,
B.D. ACHARYA

Dear Sir/Madam,

The following is the proceedings of the fourth internal group discussion held at Department of MCA, PESIT, Bangalore on Sunday,   16th October 2011.

The discussion session was opened at 9.30 am by introducing all the participants themselves as usual. The session was chaired by Dr. R Chandrasekhar and the discussion session started at 10.00 am. In the beginning Mr. Narahari, Assistant Professor, Department of S&H, PESIT, Bangalore gave a nice presentation of his research work on "(1,2) coloring decomposition". He had proved certain theorems on (1, 2) coloring. This was discussed nicely in the presence of his guide Dr. Sooryanarayana of AIT, Bangalore.                  Dr. Sudharshan reddy also joined in the discussion and gave many suggestions regarding the results on this problem. His talk was concluded at 10.30 am.

Ms. Meera of Amrutha Institute of Technology presented her research paper on "Radiatic Dimension of a Graph". Which was discussed and certain clarification and concepts was given in the presence of Dr. Joseph Vargheese and Mrs. Mayamma Joseph of Christ University who were the new participants for the IGD who took part actively in the discussion.

After these two session we had a tea break. In the next session Mr. Chandru Hegde a student of Dr. Sooryanarayana gave a talk on "Radio Labelling of a Graph" and he had deduced many interesting results which was discussed and clarified by Mr. Sudharshan Reddy and Dr. Joseph Vargheese along with Sooryanarayana. Also Dr. Chandrasekhar took part in the discussion.

From 12.15 to 1.00 Dr. Sudharshan Reddy gave a talk on "Critical Graphs" and gave some open problems on Critical Graphs.
1.00 to 2.00 pm was a lunch break. From 2.00 to 3.15 we had a very interesting session given Dr. Sudharshan Iyengar, IISc, Bangalore on "Graph Packages". He gave all the information required to draw the graphs specifying the number of nodes and edges required, the property which the graphs has to satisfy using the open source programs. He introduced the corresponding websites address, E-mail address and the type of packages to use to test and verify the properties of the graphs. Actually he demonstrated by generating many graphs on-line like Peterson graph. So this talk was very interesting and useful for the young researchers. His talk was incomplete and he had many more packages to introduce to the participants. So we have asked him to continue in the 5th IGD.

After the tea break in the afternoon, Dr. Medha, Bangalore University presented a paper on "Eccentric Digraphs of a Graph". She also gave many open problems on digraphs.

The session was conclued by thanking all the participants and the institution which gave an opportunity to host the IGD. Atlast the next IGD Venue was discussed and finalized.  Dr. Joseph Vargheese of Christ University opted to host the next 5th IGD on Sunday 20th November 2011 from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm.

Unfortunately we missed Dr. Sampath Kumar E who was not able to attend the discussion. Also Dr. B D Acharya, Dr. Mukthi Acharya and Dr. Jayaram could not attend the discussion as they were all out of station on that day.

About 35 participants from different institutions attended the discussion.

Those who were not the members of MIGD will be invited to become the members. We request you to accept the invitation and make use of the opportunity to discuss the research problems in Discrete Mathematics. The members can also refer to new members who are interested to join MIGD.

This proceedings of the IGD was compiled by Dr. Chandrasekhar, Department of MCA, PESIT, Bangalore.

Any suggestions by the members are welcome to improve the strength and quality of IGD.

I hope all of you will meet in the next IGD.

Thanking you,

With best regards,
