Hi Crop, GHG, and Soil Modelers,

Mitti Labs is seeking to hire a full time Crop GHG modeler for our team. Please see below.

Our Mission: Agriculture accounts for a large portion of global GHG emissions and we believe that sustainable, regenerative, or climate smart agricultural practices can help make landscapes more resilient, improve livelihoods, and combat climate change. Through DMRV tech our goal is to help grow adoption of climate smart ag and make impacts. Today we work in small holder landscapes in India and South Asia.

Who We Are: We are a climate-tech startup who believe regenerative and climate smart agriculture is a scalable & cost effective solution. Mitti Labs uses data science, satellite remote sensing, and process models to track farming practices, estimate GHG emissions, and compensate small-holder farmers for their transition towards more sustainable practices. We’re backed by leading global VCs who passionately believe in our vision to change the world.

What You Will Help Us With:
  • Leads and/or supports modeling of crop productivity and physiology, agricultural GHG emissions, C/N cycling.
  • Help gauge impacts of management practices on environmental outcomes such as tillage, seeding, and water management on SOC, CH4, N2O, yield, and GWP
  • Work with data scientists, engineers and remote sensors to parameterize the model-stack and assess sensitivity
  • Lead and conduct simulations with process models across small holder landscapes
  • Identify best combinations of practices to reduce rice methane, sequester SOC, and improve resiliency
  • Work with institutional partners to implement best practices

Experience & Skills We're Looking For:
  • Awareness and interest in climate change, agriculture, IPCC principles, & sustainability
  • Minimum of Master’s degree in Agriculture, Biological Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Natural Resources, Soil Science, Systems modeling, or similar field
  • Scientific knowledge of research and ability to mine and synthesize literature
  • Knowledge, experience, and interest in assessing impacts of agricultural management practices on environmental outcomes such as C/N cycling, SOC sequestration, GHG emissions, GWP tradeoffs
  • Understanding of model parameterization, data handling, and sensitivity testing
  • Experience with process-based models such as DSSAT, APSIM, EPIC, DNDC, Oryza, DayCent, RothC

Preferred and Bonus if:
  • Experience in rice ecosystems and India (or S. Asia)
  • PhD & track record (publications, workshops, or conferences) of activity in modeling climate smart agriculture and collaborations with academia and research or policy institutions
  • Experience/knowledge in soil microbiology, CH4 & N20, flux towers, chambers
  • Big data simulations, git and Python, project design, Machine learning, remote sensing, designing new management modules (tillage, irrigation, manure)

Location: This role is fully remote. However, being located in India is preferred for this role given the growth of Mitti Labs' program in the region.

Why Work With Us: Be part of the first batch of employees turning Mitti Labs’ goals into reality, and grow with us to make an impact on our planet and the farmers we support. Joining at an early stage of this company will allow you to have unlimited opportunities as we scale our team.

Thanks,
-Nate
