By default, DSpace enables both the legacy (log based) usage reports (if generated) and the SOLR usage reports.

The legacy reports contain some items that are not captured in SOLR (logins, OAI requests)
The duplicated usage info is confusing (view counts/search counts)

The best approach would be to migrate the logging of unique elements from the legacy reporting mechanism to another mechanism (such as SOLR).

At a minimum, the presentation of these reports should be disabled by default to prevent the continuing use of this conflicting information.

Per the DSpace roadmap, the consolidation of statistics reporting should be a DSpace 7 Priority 1 feature: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/RoadMap#RoadMap-CandidateFeaturesforDSpace7.0-Priority1

The legacy statistics also contain another type of information that is currently not available elsewhere in DSpace: content count by type in a given month, answering both "how many items of this type / overall were in the repository at the end of this month" and "how many items of this type / overall were added to the repository during this month". We should establish whether this sort of information is of use to repository managers and if so, find a new mechanism to provide this sort of data.
