Community page's search scope

Hello,
On community's page Browse is set by default to "Subcommunities and Collections". When you do a search using the header's search function it searches "All of DSpace". However, if you set Browse to "By Issue Date", "By Author", "By Title" or "By Subject" and then do a search the scope is set to the community (and the url has scope-parameter).
Is this by design or a bug? If by design is it possible to change the scope to always be the community? Currently a community with a child theme changes suddenly to the default theme when a search is done with the default "Subcommunities and Collections" Browse option.
