Dspace 5.4 installation & maintanace

Dear all, 

I wanted to implement Dspace 5.4 in  university library . which operating system is suitable for this.

ubuntu, windows or linux ? is it for 32 bit operating system or 64 bit operating system ?? 

will you pls guide me to properly install Dspace 5.4 

with correct version of

             ubuntu /windows / linux

            —Apache Maven

—

—             Apache Ant

—

              —Apache Tomcat

Ubuntu *is* a distribution of Linux.

DSpace is used and supported on both Linux and Windows, but I would
guess that it is more often deployed on Linux. Your level of
familiarity and skill with a particular OS is probably the most
important consideration in making your choice.

DSpace is written in Java, so it is unaware of whether your system is
in 32-bit or 64-bit mode. You would need to install the version of
Java for the correct bit-width, but DSpace will not care.

If possible, you should use 64 bit operating systems, which is anyway very common now a days, and also 64 bit JVM (Java Virtual Machine). 64 bit JVM will have larger address space and, if required, can be configured with more heap size (limited to only 2GB in case of 32 bit).
