Dear all,
 I need some guidance.
My institution is planning to start managing research data.
How appropriate is Dspace as a platform for implementing Research data, such as datasets?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards.
Tom

Hi Tom,

In the past I have worked with the vendor Prosentient to configure DSpace to handle datasets when I was working for the University of New England Australia. One of the areas we need to work on first was handling and displaying lots of files. DSpace was configured to paginate files in order to avoid overwhelming the record when conducting simple tasks like editing the record.

Beyond this we had to determine other key aspects such as trying to meet preservation standards. If you are interested, I can pass you onto the colleagues I used to work with who can answer your questions in relation to what has been done since this was set up years ago.

Kind regards,

Allison

Hi Tom,

I am sure that DSpace is an appropriate platform for implementing research data repositories, including datasets.

We have experience with data repository and we're currently setting up a brand new DSpace data repository for West Bohemia University in Pilsen, Czech Republic (https://data-dspace.zcu.cz/).

We also develop a new features and functionalities, i.e.:
Licenses - the Item could have different download restrictions
ZIP previews
S3 and local storage synchronization
Improved tombstones

God morning,

we are currently using DSpace 7.6.1 and 8 for multiple Research Data repositories and it works quite fine. You might want to redesign the file-download sections on the item-pages, because they're not yet optimized for research data but beside this, it was quite strait forward.

Kind regards,
Eike Löhden.
