Dear DSpace Community,

We require your guidance to resolve an access control issue in our DSpace 7.6 based repository. We manage multiple collections, all of which are currently restricted for full-text access and assigned to specific groups accordingly.

Our requirement is to create a new group that should have access to the full text of only one specific collection, while keeping the rest of the repository restricted. However, when we assign the “read bitstream” policy to this new group, the members are still unable to access the content of that collection.

Could you please suggest the proper approach or solution to configure this correctly?

Thank you in advance and appreciate your assistance.

Dear Namrata,

This is likely because you'll need to specifically add read permissions (item and bitstream level) to every item in that collection. The new group will be able to access any items submitted after the group was added but this won't apply items added to the collection before the group was given read permissions.

The easiest way to do this is with the Access Control feature on the collection. If this is a custom group you may also need to edit the access-conditions.xml config file and add the group so that it appears as an option in Access Control.

Yours sincerely,

Peter
