Hello,

I am working with the DSpace Demo Site Administrator (https://demo.dspace.org/home), specifically using the “Content Source” option for a collection.

I configured an external OAI Provider as the source, but the harvesting process did not work. The details are as follows:

Harvest Controls

  • Harvest status: UNKNOWN_ERROR
  • Harvest start time: 2026-01-13T14:56:34.019991Z
  • Last time harvested: N/A
  • Harvest info: Unknown error occurred while generating an OAI response

Do you know if this functionality is restricted on the DSpace demo site?

Thank you,

Hi Andreu,

Apologies for taking so long to get back to you.  As far as I'm aware the "Content Source" option is not restricted on the Demo Site.  But, it does require that the *source* you are harvesting from is publicly accessible (i.e. the demo site must be able to contact it) and that the OAI-PMH content is well formed.

Unfortunately, I cannot gather any more information on the error because the demo site "resets" it's content on a weekly basis.

I also wanted to point out that, if you are just wanting to test this feature, you might want to consider starting up your own "test" instance of DSpace using our "Try out DSpace 9" instructions.  It's rather easy these days to spin up a test instance of DSpace in Docker on your own machine.  That'd allow you to more easily test this feature and also see the more detailed logs if the feature is failing to download from the source you specified.

Thank you very much, Tim. I’ll try it with Docker.

Otherwise, this is the OAI-PMH configuration that doesn’t run in the DSpace demo:

What’s most curious is that the same configuration works in a DSpace 6.3 instance that we have locally at the University of Barcelona.
