Hi all,
I am in the process of migrating data from dspace5 to Dspace7.6.
I backed up my data in .bak format. I was wondering the differences between .dump and what are the implications for each format.
The second question is, do I need to delete the dspace database which is empty in the new installation before restoring the old database to new server?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Tom,

Rather than working from an old backup, I'd recommend following the steps in our migration guide if you are migrating data from an older version of DSpace into either DSpace 7 or 8:

This guide walks you through the steps of exporting your current data, migrating it over, and importing into the new DSpace.  There are a number of others who have commented on that guide saying that is was a useful resource for how to do this migration smoothly.
