Dear DSpace Community,

I am writing to seek your advice on a performance issue we are experiencing with our running instance of DSpace 6.3.

We have noticed that our server's performance significantly degrades, and pages often hang, whenever we try to browse any page that lists an item with a very large number of authors (e.g., over 1,000). This includes collection pages, search results, and the item's own landing page.

We were wondering if the system should have a caching mechanism to prevent this repeated?

Has anyone in the community encountered a similar issue? We would be very grateful for any advice on how to resolve this, whether it's through configuration changes, database tuning, or even custom theme modifications to paginate the author list.

Hi

Have you tried limiting or lazy-loading the author list on the browse/search/item pages (show first n authors +   “show more” link or just pages)?

In my humble idea, this doesn’t seem like a caching-only problem—DSpace may still need to load and render a lot of metadata values.

Best,
