Hi folks,

We are running DSpace 7.6.3.

We recently turned on DOI creation, and it seemed to be working, but it consistently fails when trying to update. Initial creation of a DOI works great, so I don't think it's a URL or credentials issue. But when DSpace tries to update a DOI later when there has been a metadata change, we consistently get a 404 DOI Not found error, "WARN  unknown unknown org.dspace.identifier.doi.DataCiteConnector @ While reserving the DOI doi:10.25675/3.02040, we got a http status code 404 and the message "DOI not found"."

If I manually use the API endpoints and credentials using curl everything works great.

I added a bit of additional logging and get a message that the request will be sent to 'https://mds.test.datacite.org/metadata/' without the actual DOI path at the end. Is it possible something about our configuration is causing this and it's trying to post to the wrong address, which is causing the 404s? It feels like grasping at straws but I can't find anything else that seems promising.

Relevant configurations (minus credentials) are at this gist, we have a pretty vanilla installation and stuck pretty close to the default configurations given.

Any clarifying questions or thoughts would be most appreciated!

Thanks,

Just closing the loop on this, we figured out there are only a couple of values that will actually work for the "identifier.doi.resolver" configuration because they're hardcoded into the DIM2DataCite.xsl crosswalk. I had set "https://www.doi.org" and when I removed the www. to just have "https://doi.org" and updated items to have it as such in their metadata updates succeeded.

tl;dr either don't set the identifier.doi.resolver configuration or stick to either "https://doi.org" or "http://dx.doi.org" for now.
