tune apache2 to handle traffic, specifically for MaxRequestWorkers

hi all,

has anyone tuned apache2 to handle traffic, specifically for MaxRequestWorkers? we have been seeing performance issues in test. when we switched the domain today and the traffic finally arrived, we found that apache is running out of workers. has anyone tuned that value?
