Dear all,

Whenever i start my DSpace tomcat it stops with the below message
while checking its status:

* Tomcat servlet engine is not running, but pid file exists.

I am using Lubuntu 14.04 and dspace 5.4.

Hi vinod,

Your tomcat instance didn't shut down cleanly the last time.  Delete the file tomcat.pid (it will be in your CATALINA_BASE directory).  Then try starting it.  This should fix your problem.

I faced the same problem.
I could not find tomcat.pid file anywhere.

I had this problem when  in /etc/tomcat7/server.xml i had

empty location:   

<Context path="/lni" docBase="/dspace/webapps/lni" allowLinking="true"/> 

Comment this line and try restart tomcat it should be work.
