Hello,

Can anyone confirm if direct links to assets are still available, for example to be exposed in a metadata harvest, in DSpace 7?

In previous versions of DSpace we were able to extract direct links to say, PDFs, from metadata, that would appear such as "<identifier>http://institution.ca/bitstream/xxxx/xx/document.pdf</identifier>"

and now I am seeing only things like

https://institution.ca/bitstreams/4d83d6df-7914-4cd2-b4f3-197a776ccec3/download

I read the support documentation but did not see a clear answer--are the latter type of links the only ones provided for in DSpace 7?

Thank you,

Sean

Hi Sean,

Correct, DSpace 7 will only display/show the links like:  https://institution.ca/bitstreams/4d83d6df-7914-4cd2-b4f3-197a776ccec3/download

However, older links (like those from DSpace 6) should **redirect automatically** to the new location.  So, no old links should break during an upgrade.

Hi Tim,

Thank you so much for clarifying this.

Best,

Hi Tim,

Unfortunately not all links are redirected automatically.
Links with spaces or cyrillic symbols in the filename fail to open.

Best regards,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Yes, we are aware of that bug: https://github.com/DSpace/dspace-angular/issues/2727  The goal is that these redirects should work for all bitstreams, but they do not at this time.

I don't yet have a timeline for when that specific bug will be fixed, but I've asked on the ticket to the developer who was looking into it initially.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for sharing this GitHub ticket and great to see the changes have been merged! We are still however seeing an issue with filenames with spaces in the title.

Here's an example of an item in Google Scholar, where the PDF no longer redirects to the respective DSpace repository (recently upgraded to 7.6.2). The items in question are bitstream URLs that have spaces in the file name, (appearing as %20.). Handles and other URLs, including bitstream links with no spaces in the file name, are redirecting correctly.

Is there a way to configure how filenames are treated or any development on this specific redirect issue?

Thanks very much,

Julia

We are also experiencing this issue of bitstreams with whitespaces not redirecting properly in 7.6.2. Here is an example of ours in Google Scholar.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

All,

Just a quick note.  Thanks to work from the Scholars Portal team (https://github.com/scholarsportal), the bug with filenames that have spaces/whitespace has been fixed in the upcoming DSpace 7.6.3 release.  The fix was just merged yesterday and can be found in this PR: https://github.com/DSpace/dspace-angular/pull/3876

The DSpace 7.6.3 release can be expected in the next two weeks. We are hoping it will be out by the end of January, but it may be the first week of February.

Tim
