Item Counts

When adding an item to a community in DSpace—for example, if the community initially has 8 items—we expect the total to update to 9 after adding a new item. However, the community still displays 8 items instead of 9.

The same issue appears at the collection level, where the item count also remains at 8. But when you open the collection, it correctly shows 9 items, which is the expected total for the community.

This indicates that the item count is not updating properly at the community and collection summary levels, even though the actual number of items inside the collection is correct.

Hello,

First, what version of DSpace is your instance running? Does this issue with the item counts happen consistently or only sometimes?  

It looks like there was a similar issue resolved in DSpace 7.6.2, so if your instance is running an earlier version you can upgrade or port that fix.  For a temporary reset, it looks like restarting Tomcat has worked in the past to update item counts as well.  Finally, you could also look into the error logs further to see if there are any explicit errors that are occurring during submission of a new item - see the Troubleshooting guide.
