Good afternoon,

I upgraded our DSpace to version 6.4 a while ago.

In the local.cf file I missed the part where I had to change the handle.canonical.prefix and it was left at 'handle.canonical.prefix = ${dspace.url}/handle/'

Before upgrading the handle.canonical.prefix was 'handle.canonical.prefix = http://hdl.handle.net/'

The result is now that it changed some handles and now we have dead links on some of our items.

Can I just change the handle.canonical.prefix back to http://hdl.handle.net/ or will this not work.

Your help will be very much appreciated,

Kind regards,
Daan

Not an authoritative answer but my initial thoughts are:

  • You should probably change the prefix back so that any new items are created correctly
  • If items created prior to the upgrade have been displaying broken links, then changing the prefix would probably fix them
  • For items created following the upgrade you might need to manually update the handle link in their metadata – but of more concern would be that they may not have been properly registered with your handle server. (You could test this by following one of the links.) I’m not sure of the best way to deal with that, if that’s the case. The handle server may have a way to manually do a bulk upload of data?
