DSpace 8.0 and ORCID Authentication Problem] Status 401 Unauthorized - orcid.generic-error

Dear DSpace Community,

I am encountering an ORCID login issue in our DSpace 8.0 instance. When attempting to authenticate via ORCID, the system throws the following error:

401 Unauthorized  

An error occurred during login via ORCID. Make sure you have shared your ORCID account email address with DSpace.  

If the error persists, contact the administrator.

Additional info:

• Status code: 401

• Error code: orcid.generic-error

• DSpace version: 8.0

• ORCID integration was configured as per the official documentation.

• The user's ORCID account does have the email visibility set to public/shared.
  
  

Has anyone faced a similar issue with ORCID authentication in DSpace 8?Is there any specific setting in the ORCID API credentials or the local.cfg/orcid.cfg that might trigger this error? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Tekleweyni,

I noticed you also asked this question in a GitHub Ticket.  I've answered it in that ticket and closed the ticket.  See https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/issues/10900#issuecomment-2970545553

Basically, this is expected behavior in DSpace 8.0 if the user doesn't have their email set to "public" or "shared with third parties" in their ORCID account.
