Dear all,

Thank you in advance for any guidance on this matter. The question is quite simple, but I am really new to DSpace, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

The institution I work for is currently using DSpace 7.5, and I have been asked to explore the possibilities of upgrading or migrating to version 8 or 9. Therefore, I would like to ask whether there is any issue with migrating directly from DSpace 7.5 to DSpace 9, or if it is necessary to upgrade to version 8 first.

Thank you and best regards,

Guillermo.

You don't have to do two upgrades to go from v7 to v9, but you do have
to carry out all of the steps of both upgrades. You should read the
upgrade instructions for v8 and v9. Some steps, such as database
migration, will be common to both upgrades, and need only be done
once. But, for example, there are usually a few changes to the
configuration files that you should consider, and apply if needed.
You should make the necessary changes from v8 as well as those from
v9.

You should also check the instructions for v7 to make certain that
there is nothing to be done to upgrade from 7.5 to 7.6. I see that
there is a change to the Solr 'search' core's schema that should be
addressed. There may be more.

In short: read all of the upgrade instructions for your starting
version through your ending version, inclusive, and merge them.

Thank you all. I'll check migrating to Dspace 9, not upgrading. Will use a test environment.

Hi Guillermo

Documentation is here; read it carefully as there is at least one extra step when going from 7 to 9:

Thank you all for the advices and pointing the correct documentation. For what I have read, it'll be better to install a new version of Dspace 9, migrate the data and will have to do all the config again.
