DSpace Custom Handle IDs

Hello,

is there a way to influence the local ID generation for a resource at creation time?

I see, that the IDs are provided in ascending order such as /handle/12345678/30, /handle/12345678/31, /handle/12345678/32.

Can I somewhere modify the start value?

Or even create a custom logic for the ID generation, so that I can distinguish between IDs for publications, communities and collections?

We are using DSpace 6.3 (with CRIS extension).
