Hello! I'm Nicolás from Argentina.

I have a problem with dspace 7. After a time of use without problems, we began to receive the following error when we tried to download files of some of the published items

java.io.FileNotFoundException: C: \ dspace \ assetstore \ 32 \ 19 \ 19 \ 32191912562131559448175015603535364437 (The system cannot find the path specified)

Checking in the Assetstore folder, there is no such that path and, we notice that the folder weighs very little compared to what it should.

Apparently things are missing within that folder, which certainly weren't removed from the filesystem

Any suggestion? can this be rebuilt?

Hi Nicolas,

Is there anything else on your system that could be moving files from that assetstore directory?  Maybe an overzealous virus scanner has put some files in quarantine or something?  Or did you recently migrate this assetstore directory from another location and perhaps miss copying over some files?

DSpace doesn't remove files from the assetstore directory unless you delete the files via the UI (or similar).  DSpace also doesn't have any way to restore those assetstore files once they are deleted, unless you've been backing them up, either via a simple filesystem backup or via DSpace's AIP Backup & Restore feature: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/AIP+Backup+and+Restore

I'm not sure how these files could have been deleted.  But, you may want to look at whether the server was backed up recently...as you should be able to simply copy the files from a backup into the same "assetstore" directory/filename to get it all working again.

If you find any other hints as to what might have happened, feel free to share them on this list if you feel they'd be useful to others.

Tim

hi Tim, thanks for your reply.

The items that disappeared were all the ones I created through the REST api. The only item that I can download your file from is one created through the UI.

I will review my backups and comment on more news

Thank you

Hi Nicolas,

Since there's a common thread that the missing files were all created via the REST API, you may want to review your REST API creation process.  It is always possible that your script for creating files via the REST API was not calling the REST API properly to upload the files (resulting in an error & the file never making it to the DSpace "assetstore"). Or, is there any chance your REST API script could be accidentally deleting files?

In any case, it sounds like you've narrowed things down to something with how you are using the REST API.  Let us know on this list if you need more help or discover anything else as you debug the problem.

Tim
