Hello,

For some reason, the creative commons options aren't translating in the submission form, ie:

CreativeCommons_030524.png

As pictured, we managed to translate the questions for the French form by removing the default locale (ie. cc.license.locale=en) from dspace.cfg ).  The labels for the radio buttons though remain unchanged.  Are those labels being added dynamically directly from Creative Commons?  What can we do to get them to translate for our French users?

Thanks,
Carolyn

Hello Carolyn,

These translations are provided directly by the Creative Commons API, but unfortunately they don't provide translations for the answers.

I've been working on fixing this by implementing a modification in Angular to translate answers locally. You can see the required changes here:

https://github.com/DSpace/dspace-angular/compare/main...toniprieto:dspace-angular:cc-translate-answers

By applying this change and adding translations in French, you should be able to fix it.

I will try to submit this change for future versions.

Regards,

Toni

Hello Toni,

Oooh, thanks, that's very clever!  I'll be contacting the Creative Commons API to ask them to please add translations, but in the interim, that is perfect!  Thank you so much for sharing, I really appreciate it!

Cheers,
Carolyn.

Hi Toni and Carolyn,

I’m bumping this thread as there’s been renewed interest from the community around this issue.

Toni, thanks again for sharing your solution. Would you be open to contributing this fix back to the main branch? I’m happy to help support the review process. This improvement would be a great enhancement to DSpace’s multilingual support. Please let me know what you think.

Thank you!

Hi Rachel,

I've just submitted a PR:
https://github.com/DSpace/dspace-angular/pull/5031

And the version for 8.x / 7.x:
https://github.com/DSpace/dspace-angular/pull/5032

I wasn't sure whether it made sense to do this, since the integration with the CC API is expected to be replaced (see: https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/issues/9397).
However, at the moment there is no volunteer to work on that change.

Regards,
Toni

Hi Toni,

Thank you very much for putting together the PR we really appreciate your work for this fix 🙂! I’ll ask Tim to assign me as a reviewer for the main branch fix and related ports. We have several community members who are very interested in seeing this resolved. We understand that there may be an alternative solution in the future, but this contribution will be incredibly valuable.

Thank you again!

Best Regards,
Rachel
