We're planning to do it both ways here at MIT. Since the theses are under the "curatorship" of the libraries, we decided they had to go into a "Library" community. With the 1.2 software we can create sub-communities, so we plan to divide them up by sub-community, with each sub-community corresponding to the degree-granting department.

Subject: Re: [dspace-theses] Community configuration for theses in DSpace
Of course we know that nobody will look for the theses in the "Library" community, so we will use the new "mapping" feature to have them show up under each of the degree-granting departments also. So here is the structure using the Dept. of Mathematics as an example:
MIT Libraries (Community)
MIT Theses (Subcommunity)
Dept. of Mathematics Theses (Subcommunity)
Mathematics Ph.D. Theses(Collection)
Mathematics Masters Theses(Collection)
Mathematics Bachelors Theses(Collection)
Dept. of Mathematics (Community)
Dept. of Mathematics Theses (Subcommunity)
Mathematics Ph.D. Theses(Collection)
Mathematics Masters Theses(Collection)
Mathematics Bachelors Theses(Collection)

Hi,
I'd like to get a sense of how sites who are adding theses to DSpace have configured the community structure.
Specifically, has anyone created a single "Theses and Dissertations" community and used that for all theses? Or is it
more common to create individual communities for departments/schools/faculties?
Thanks,
Mark
