Dear Professionals,

I did the dspace installation using the latest liblivedvd version 1.7.  It worked perfectly since last 6 months.  Recently, my IBM server had some issues which was resolved the power of the machine was plugged off (sounds weird but this actually helped). Since then, My DSpace XMLUI is not responding and giving following error:

Service Unavailable

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

Apache/2.4.18 (Ubuntu) Server at dl.bhu.ac.in Port 80

Other services on my localhost is working perfectly except xmlui which works on 6060 port. No cocoon log files are generated since the time my IBM server gave error.  I restarted my tomcat but it was of no help. The documentation mentions that dspace installation uses jetty instead of apache. I am not sure where I am going wrong.
I need  urgent help as it is the live repository of my institution.

Thanks

Hello,

That error seems to be thrown from Apache Web Server on port 80.  It's a generic error that basically just says "Apache is down or not working right"

I'm not sure how the "liblivedvd" is setup (as we don't maintain that), but it sounds like either Apache is not starting properly, or Apache is not able to forward requests on to Tomcat/Jetty web server running on port 6060.  You also may want to try checking the Apache web server logs for errors -- on Ubuntu, they tend to be at /var/log/apache2/

Good luck.  If you find more specific error message in the logs and need help, you can always ask again on this mailing list.

Hello Sneha,

(Please send these messages to the list. Many are glad to help on the mailing list. I'm copying the list back in on this response.)

Your Apache logs look to be filled with this error message:

[proxy:error] [pid 28767] (111)Connection refused: AH00957: AJP: attempt to connect to 127.0.0.1:6009 (localhost) failed
[proxy:error] [pid 28767] AH00959: ap_proxy_connect_backend disabling worker for (localhost) for 60s

This error essentially says that your Apache webserver is unable to forward (or proxy) requests to the Tomcat/Jetty webserver (where DSpace is running).

So, it's likely your Apache webserver configuration is messed up.  It looks like, from these errors that you are using AJP (mod_proxy_ajp) to forward requests from Apache to Tomcat/Jetty.  We have a guide in our Installation documentation on how to setup mod_proxy_ajp properly to forward requests from Apache to Tomcat:

Good luck,

Tim

Thanks for your reply.  I am not very thorough with the web servers.  I am enclosing the error log files.  If you can spare a little time of yours to see the possible issue.  I can give the remote access to my server if you like to.  I am struggling since many days.

Thanks.
