Hello,

We (the University of Tennessee) have recently migrated to DSpace from Digital Commons and we're getting a lot of questions about statistics and author metrics on DSpace. I'm still trying to figure out how to access all of the statistics that are available through DSpace but I was curious if anyone had any materials on item statistics/metrics they might be willing to share with me?

That's also the only real complaint that we are getting about the new platform currently and I was curious if there were any additional options available through DSpace for increased items statistics or metrics that are more in line with what submitters had access to in Digital Commons?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Best,
Ashley

Which version of DSpace are you using, Ashley?

I think we went live on DSpace 8. We’re using DSpace CRIS if that makes a difference in the options that are available for statistics.

Hi Ashley,

DSpace-CRIS has enhanced statistics / reporting over vanilla DSpace.  However we are in the process of merging DSpace-CRIS into DSpace to result in a single platform. This will bring the same internal statistics to both platforms, likely starting with DSpace 11 next year.  But, it sounds like you are already finding DSpace-CRIS statistics limited.  This merger will only bring those same statistics over to DSpace.

If the internal statistics you see in DSpace-CRIS are still lacking, then it'd probably be best to create feature request tickets to describe the "gaps" in what you are looking for. https://github.com/DSpace/dspace-angular/issues   (I admit, I'm not directly familiar with the statistical options in Digital Commons, so I cannot speak to those gaps myself)   DSpace is built entirely by volunteers, but creating an issue ticket might catch the attention of a developer (or service provider) interested in helping to enhance those statistical reports.

It is also worth mentioning that some institutions choose to use Google Analytics or Matomo Analytics *instead of* the internal DSpace statistics because those tools provide more advanced filtering and analysis options.  DSpace can integrate with either of those external analytics tools.  See the docs at https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC9x/Statistics+and+Metrics
