All,

I'm passing along this sad news via Michele Kimpton (former directory of DSpace Foundation & DuraSpace).

Brad McLean was the DSpace Technical Director back when the DSpace Foundation existed (2007-09).  When DuraSpace was formed in 2009, he was promoted to DuraSpace CTO and handed over the Tech Lead reigns to me.  He continued to mentor me through my early years until he left DSpace for new adventures in 2012.

Those of you who were lucky enough to meet Brad (in those early days of DSpace) will remember he was a friend to everyone he met.  If you were lucky enough to hang out with him, he may have even shared a sample of one of his great homebrew beers. (He was also an excellent cook.)

Brad was a wonderful colleague, mentor and friend.  He was instrumental in helping DSpace along in those early years during its transition to community supported software.

Cheers to you Brad!  We'll miss you.

Technical Lead, DSpace

From Michele Kimpton:
====================

Hello DSpace community members,
I have been long gone from the DSpace community, but for those of you that were part of the community in 2008-2012?  I wanted to let you know of the unfortunate passing of one of our colleagues, Brad McLean.  Brad served as the Technical Director for DSpace Foundation when it was formed within MIT.  If you remember Brad and would like to send a message, tribute, or wishes to his family, you can do so here https://www.echovita.com/us/obituaries/ma/somerville/bradley-mclean-18694549

Apologies, as this is not the normal communication for this list serv, but I wanted to get the message out to those that may have worked with him.

With kind regards,
Michele Kimpton ( former Director of DSpace Foundation)
