Hi everyone,

I hope you are doing well. I’m pleased to share that the DSpace Steering Group has approved the formation of a new “DSpace & PIDs” interest group to convene interested community members in discussions related to the presence and functionality of various Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) in DSpace, such as ORCID, DataCite DOIs, Crossref DOIs, ROR, etc. Please see the DSpace & PIDs Interest Group Charter for more details on the purpose and background of the group.

DSpace & PIDs Interest Group

The first virtual group meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 9 from 4-5pm UTC, where we will introduce the context for the group and give an overview of the current status of various PIDs in DSpace, followed by discussion about top priorities of focus for future meetings. If you are interested in these discussions, please register for the meeting regardless of whether you can attend or not. The calls will be recorded, and the recordings and notes will be shared with all registrants, with opportunities for feedback to be shared asynchronously.

The DSpace & PIDs Interest Group wiki page will have all of the meeting information, notes, etc. We anticipate that each subsequent meeting will have a pre-determined topic of focus, largely based on existing PID-related Github tickets. We realize that interested parties are scattered across multiple timezones, so scheduling for future meetings will rely heavily on the availability of key experts and stakeholders related to the identified topics. Anyone with an interest in DSpace and PIDs is welcome to join the meetings, participate in discussions, and share feedback.

Please feel free to share this information with anyone you know who may be interested. If you have questions, send an email to sheila...@lyrasis.org.

Thank you,

Sheila Rabun and John Aspler (co-chairs of the DSpace & PIDs Interest Group)
