Hello to everyone, I have a question about orcid intergation and dspace.

Did have any option to import a Person and take automatically all publications from ORCID?

Need the Person login in dspace and connect account with orcid to get publication manual but not all publications as one.

Thanks!

Hello,

from what I know you cannot take automatically all publications from ORCID - but there is a chance to do it at least half-automatically. Are you using plain DSpace or DSpace-CRIS? With DSpace-CRIS you can import publications and use ORCID as a source - so, you can just search an ORCID iD and will probably get a complete list of all publications from that person. These publications can be selected for import. You do not need a Researcher Profile for that and the ORCID iD does not need to be connected with the ORCID account. This functionality is documented in https://github.com/4Science/DSpace/releases/download/dspace-cris-2023.02.03/dspace-cris-2023.02.03.pdf on page 105. Just remember, that this kind of import is not a real import after all; it's just an option to get the submission form prefilled with some metadata from ORCID. You will still have to complete the metadata for each publication and to send them into the approval workflow. Let me note, that there are other ways to import items, but they require manual preparation and certainly some effort to set up a workflow for it.
However, if you are using DSpace-CRIS and the person has connected their account to ORCID, the person should see recommendations to import items from ORCID. As far as I know, this functionality is the same as the one described above (so it still needs manual intervention), but maybe this information helps you a little bit.

If you are using DSpace, option 1 to import publications from ORCID should still be possible to use, while option 2 is not available as it's DSpace-CRIS exclusive so far.

Best regards
Oliver

Hello,

if I understand you correctly you want to set relations between imported publications and authors (researcher profiles) automatically, right?

The way relations are built is different between DSpace and DSpace CRIS and as far as I know, this can affect the import. I can only describe things from the DSpace-CRIS perspective, as I am a lot more familiar with that. You have many options to import publications and DSpace-CRIS has some special options in that context, which are probably not available in plain DSpace. So, it is important to know, which platform you are using to give you hints how to import publications and set relations to the authors automatically.

In DSpace-CRIS you can use (for example) the bulk import tool, which uses Excelfiles to import contents (described in DSpace-CRIS documentation https://github.com/4Science/DSpace/releases/download/dspace-cris-2023.02.03/dspace-cris-2023.02.03.pdf on pages 108ff). In that format you can set authors and relations to their RP.

In plain DSpace, to be honest, I don't know, if it is possible to set the relations for imports. I would recommend to have a look into the DSpace documentation on the Lyrasis Wiki https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x in the section how to ingest or import content (unfortunately I do not have a direct link at the moment, as the Lyrasis Wiki has apparently some trouble).

Best regards

Oliver
