Hello everyone,

I recently upgraded my system from DSpace 6 to DSpace 7, and I’m facing an issue with the statistics reporting feature.

In DSpace 6, I was able to generate and export statistical reports (such as download counts, item views by month, per community/collection, etc.) as shown in the attached screenshot. However, after upgrading to DSpace 7, the statistics module has changed significantly, and it seems those reporting features are no longer available in the same way.

I’d like to ask:

  • Is there a way to generate/export statistics reports like in DSpace 6 in the current DSpace 7 system?

  • Are there any recommended tools or add-ons to enhance or replicate the old reporting capabilities?

  • Has anyone successfully used solutions such as Elasticsearch, Matomo, or custom scripts to replace the old reporting features?

I’ve attached a screenshot of the DSpace 6 report interface for reference.

Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions!

Hi,

That DSpace 6 feature was renamed to "Administrator Reports", and was first included again in DSpace 8.  So, that feature does not exist in DSpace 7, but it is back as of DSpace 8. Here's the docs for it, which include some screenshots: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=325255348

Also, I should have added, as of DSpace 9.0, Matomo is also supported.  The docs for that are here: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC9x/Matomo+Integration

Thank you for the helpful clarification regarding the statistics reports and the return of the “Administrator Reports” feature in DSpace 8.

I’m now considering upgrading from DSpace 7 to DSpace 8 in order to regain access to these reporting features.

I’d like to ask:

  • Is the upgrade process from DSpace 7 to DSpace 8 straightforward?

  • Can the existing content, metadata, user accounts, and statistics be migrated easily?

  • Are there any known issues or compatibility concerns I should be aware of during the upgrade process?

If there’s any official migration guide or community advice for this upgrade path, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Thanks again for your support!

Hi,

Our upgrade guide for DSpace 8 is available in the documentation at https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC8x/Upgrading+DSpace

There's also a migration guide, which is similar but allows you to just install DSpace 8 first and migrate/move your content into it: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC8x/Migrating+DSpace+to+a+new+server

Either of those approaches can be used to upgrade to DSpace 8.  Yes, all your content will migrate successfully.  The most difficult part of any upgrade/migration is likely ensuring that any customizations you've made (e.g. custom themes in the User Interface) are also upgraded.
