Hi everyone,

Is there a maximum number of items that you can have in a metadata field? Is this different than the bulk import maximum?

Thanks in advance!

Dear Lindsey,

we have observed situations where substantial changes/optimizations are required in the Discovery search index, when you get into the hundreds (and especially thousands) of metadata values in a single field.
We've seen this in the authors and in the subject fields.

Here is an example where the decision was made to cap author lists at 100 authors max

There is no actual cap, but as a rule of thumb, you may see performance degradation or other side effects if you start going over 100 values for the same metadata field, again, especially authors and subjects.

with kindest regards,

Bram
