REST-based digital preservation workflow

DSpace Community- 

We're looking to download digital preservation-quality backups of our DSpace items through the REST API. 

Specifically, we're looking to...

-Download, per item, the bitstream(s) and dublin_core.xml file, at the very least. Or, to replicate the functionality of the 'export collection' UI option through REST.

-Be able to download preservation backups of item subsets within or across collections (for example, only records added in 2021) rather than whole collections. 

If anyone has experience generating such backups through REST please let us know! Any guidance would be helpful.
