Good day to you all,

I'm in dire need of your help hence this mail.

I installed dspace 5.4 on Ubuntu 14.04 Server which was populated with more than 750 document. The system was running well until of recent there was a problem due to an upgrade carried out by a colleague which led to the crash of the system. The backup of the system (assetstore and log file) was recovered successfully. A new system was acquired and configured with Dspace 6.3. on Ubuntu 16.04 Server. How to restore the backup file into the new system is now the main issue.

The assetstore along with the log file were successfully uploaded back to the newly installed dspace 6.3.

My take is, are there other commands to be run to make the new system accepts the new folders and file? If there are can you kindly let me have them STEP BY STEP please because I'm just a newbie in Ubuntu OS.

I hereby solicit your assistance in resolving this issue of dspace restore.

Best regards,

Hello,

No, there are no special commands you'd need to run to tell DSpace to "accept" the folders or files from an old backup.  You just need to make sure the files are readable/writable to whatever Operating System user (or group) is running Tomcat (where the DSpace webapp runs).  In Ubuntu, this user is sometimes called "tomcat" unless you changed its name when installing Tomcat on Ubuntu.

Also, keep in mind that since you are also upgrading from 5.x to 6.x, you'll want to be sure to read through the Upgrade Documentation for DSpace 6.x and ensure you have the proper versions of all prerequisites & update any configurations (as there were configuration changes between 5.x and 6.x).  All of that is documented in our 6.x Upgrade docs at:  https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC6x/Upgrading+DSpace  (Normally you wouldn't need to do this if you were just reinstalling DSpace 5.x. But, since you changed versions, you'll need to ensure you step through the upgrade procedure on your new server, unless you did a completely fresh install of 6.x without carrying over any 5.x configurations, etc.)

If you run into specific bugs or issues you can let us know on the DSpace Tech Support list and we'll try to offer advice there. Or use on of the other support options available:  https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Support
