DSpace-CRIS (new project)

HI everyone,
I have few questions (so if someone is willing to answer, please do - we/I would be very gratefull):

1. If we want to deploy dspace-cris what version should we choose, with respect of upgradability to next generation (dspace7)? Any special (techinical) reason for that version?

Options are (ofcourse): 5.x and 6.x.

2. DSpace-CRIS JSPUI skinning/themes - any open source repositories with examples, that we can use as head-start (I must admit I like the way Portal de la Recerca de Catalunya looks like).

3. Integration with university SSO system (anyone tried to integrate ePerson with apache_auth_mellon for saml2 or mod_auth_openidc for oidc, the same way as it can be done with mod_shib with preprovisioning some attributes, groups, etc.)?

4. Where and how to start with localization of dspace-cris?

5. Anyhing else we should pay attention to (before and during the implementation) - some tips & tricks?

Hello, 

I try to quickly answer some of your questions:

1. both versions 5 and 6 are currently maintained, and differently from usual DSpace policies, all new features are also committed in version 5, some users experienced performance issues with version 6 and prefer to stay on version 5 at the moment. Upgrade to version 7 will be doable from both. 

2. There is a list of installations with links that you can explore here: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSPACECRIS/DSpace-CRIS+Users

If you find inspiration you can ask the repository managers if they are available to share code. 

3. Authentication works in the same way as DSpace, you can find help here: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC6x/Authentication+Plugins

4. Localization of DSpace-CRIS works in the same way as DSpace, you can start from here: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC6x/Localization+L10n

(of course you will find more lines to translate because DSpace-CRIS has extended functionality)
