Hi Outreach Committee,

One thing I realized I don't think we nailed down in the online presence discussion last meeting is officially delegating website responsibilities.  In the early days of what became the DSNC, it was basically just me maintaining the website.  Now that we have a Board, I think that has been mostly them with me fixing and updating things here and there where authorized.  If the Outreach Committee is going to manage other aspects of the DSNC's online presence, would it make sense for us to also manage the website?

I think that would be good not only to spread out more of the Board's workload, but also to be thinking about how approachable the website is to new and less involved members alongside our other outreach efforts.  Some members of the previous Board had tentatively talked about that being delegated to the Outreach Committee rather than some other Tech or Website Committee.  To the Board members here: is that still the plan?  To the other Outreach Committee members: how do you feel about that being under this committee?

Best,
Zachary Yaro

P.S. To be explicit: yes, I volunteer to be part of and/or lead that hypothetical Outreach Committee website team!

Makes sense to me and I am thrilled Zachary will be on the team!

Hi Zachary,

Yes, I’d be delighted for you to continue serving as the webmaster. Thank you for offering. I think it makes sense for this to stay with Outreach rather than forming yet another committee. I’ve made some little site updates here and there, but it makes for someone to be “in charge” so updates don’t fall through the cracks.

I’ve added the Board to this thread so they can weigh in with any differences of opinion. (You might have written us separately, but I’m having trouble finding that.)

Stay cool.

Best,
Louisa

Hurray for all the volunteering!

I have just created a new Google Group for the maintainers of the DSNC web site and social media accounts: dsnc...@googlegroups.com
Anyone can send email to this address. The archives can be seen by the people on the list at: https://groups.google.com/g/dsnc-web

Elaine and Kendra and I just had a handoff meeting with Zev, and further allocated the duties of publicity for monthly and special meetings. Combining that with what has transpired over email, I've updated the DNSC Publicity Checklist. Further updates and corrections welcome as needed, especially if the below summary is incorrect! I put these folks on dsnc-web:

  • Zachary - Web Maintainer in Chief (or any title you may choose!); responsible for Twitter, Bluesky, Mastodon, Facebook, and Instagram
  • Elaine - President and chair of Outreach Committee; responsible for Reddit and Nextdoor, leading digital rebranding
  • Kendra - Secretary; responsible for web site calendar updates, online member signup Google Forms and Google Sheets, official meeting announcements by email, and the Middlesex Federal sign
  • Chris - VP; responsible for monthly update of next meeting on web site, general web site updater
  • Louisa - Board member; general web site updater

Physical posters, the only routine non-electronic notification for general meetings, are the responsibility of the Outreach Committee as organized the chair and vice-chair.

All the members of dsnc-web are also owners of the list; if anyone else wants to be on it, just let us know.

Elaine suggested that before making a change to the web site, the folks who have access send an email to dsnc-web and get at least one other person to sanity-check and OK it. I expect most of what we'll be doing is updating logistical info. Obviously any policy statements and I assume major creative content would need to be approved by the board or the membership.

I don't know how to share draft changes, but if there's a way to do that, it could be convenient for cross-checking. I will send some separate emails to the web group and other stakeholders to try to resolve some of the out-of-date content and up-in-the-air reorganization.

Chris
