Hi All, I would like for us to meet and discuss ideas for outreach - both what to accomplish and how to accomplish it. When I volunteered for this group I thought I would be talking with people about DSNC, not just hanging posters. We could reserve a room at the library or meet over coffee or beer. Perhaps we should wait till after the election because that is bound to take time for some. Any interest?

I'm so happy to hear your enthusiasm for talking to people! We're also getting a surge of enthusiasm from other folks who want to make a special effort to do that during the election. I just added our three new outreach volunteers and PJ and Zev to our list to coordinate this and whatever else is happening.

PJ and Zev are working with a group called Voters of Tomorrow to do outreach at Tufts. (I believe it's a national group and this is the Tufts chapter?) For $50, anyone can set up a table on campus, and Zev (who is an alum) has offered to cover that cost. PJ has a folding table he has offered for use. Rebecca's son Douglas is also a Tufts student and might be participating in that? (Let me know if he wants to be looped in over email!)

Rebecca is also reserving some April times in Statue Park for tabling, and some of that might be talking to people about DSNC generally even before voting starts. We will be sending out about 3,700 postcards announcing the election, thanks to some tremendous work getting done by Election Committee volunteers and our helpers from the Union Square Neighborhood Council. There will also be about 500 extra postcards for tablers to hand out. Doing on-the-spot voter verification can also happen, but there will be some restrictions while voting is happening so people can't register twice.

Do the people involved in tabling want to have a logistical meeting, or just work out over email who is bringing what to where and when? I can provide a Zoom link for a quick chat if people want, though I think I heard Marilyn say last night she hates online videoconferencing. 8)

Marilyn, it sounds like what you are proposing is more like a long-term brainstorming session, and that sounds like an excellent idea. I am going to try to find a new board liaison for outreach after the election, and if that person has new ideas, maybe it would be good for them to be there? Board liaisons also don't need to be the chair of committees (we are mostly here to facilitate communication), so if anyone wants to just take the lead now, that would be great and they don't have to wait for the election to be over.

The bylaws say we have to produce a report on our outreach efforts every 6 months. I can commit to drafting an end-of-term report and share that with all of you for review and additions. That might make a good starting point for a major strategy session. DSNC election day is April 27, and the first meeting of the new board would probably be on May 4. Marilyn, can I leave it to you to decide on the best timing and reserve a room at the library or declare a time to meet at a local establishment of your choice? It would be good to have you as a point of continuity across the election, and also I have to reserve library rooms for Elmway and the board sometimes, and there's a limit to how many times per month one person can do that.

Thanks, all!

Chris

Hi All,

I'm glad to do some of the things in Chris's email but I am not sure what is meant by 'a point of continuity across the election'. If the primary focus of the Statue Park tabling is election related, then I think that should be coordinated by the election committee which I am not a part of. Rebecca is doing that already (so Yay) and election outreach is well underway with printing and mailing postcards. If I am available during those tabling times, I can join in. I will attend a Zoom where tabling is discussed if there is one. Zoom is more effective than a lengthy email chain.

If you want to participate in more long-term brainstorming about outreach, please let me know times you are generally available to meet. I'll set up a meeting. The response to my last email was most underwhelming. If the only option is to set up a meeting at my convenience and see who shows up, then I'll do that. It seems Monday evenings is a popular time.

Hoping to see you all soon,
Marilyn

Hi All,

I'm thinking of a meeting on Monday, May 11, at 6pm to discuss and plan outreach ideas. I believe DSNC would benefit from broader participation from our community. I have heard that sentiment echoed by several of you. How will we get that participation? Will you attend a meeting at the library (if available) or on Zoom at that time? Do you want to remain on this distribution list? Please reply.

I'm out of the country until the end of May, but hope to be able to do
more after I return. Thank you to the rest of you, for all of your
efforts!

Thanks for organizing, Marilyn. I'm going to pass on this...need to take a breather after the election process wraps up and see what's next for me with DSNC.
