Good afternoon,

The Davis Square Neighborhood Council's Programs Committee has three exciting upcoming opportunities to share with you:

1) Ice Cream Fundraiser
Did you know that there is a new ice-cream store with delicious gelato nearby? Based in Belmont, Art's Creamery just opened a second store at 97 Elmwood St., Cambridge. They are generously hosting a fundraiser for DSNC on Thursday, July 30th between 5-10 PM. Buy an ice cream at the new store THIS Thursday and 10% of sales will be donated to DSNC! Located where Elmwood Street meets the Community Path (which is currently closed in that section.) Flyer attached. Thanks to Paul for coordinating!

2) Kickball Tournament
Union Square Neighborhood Council is hosting the first ever Kickball Connect Community Event on Saturday, August 29th at the Lincoln Park softball field. Event time TBD. They have invited us to play, so we are hoping to put together a DSNC team. So far only four people have signed up. Per USNC rules, "teams will be co-ed with 7 minimum/15 maximum players, at least 2 women and 2 men per team, and one member designated as captain." Please contact me if you'd like to sign up. IF we don't get enough people for a formal team, it is still possible to enroll as an individual here (but wait to do that).

3) Volunteer Cooking
The Somerville Homeless Coalition is looking for community groups to volunteer to cook a Monday Night Meal for Project Soup. Leon brought this opportunity to help to my attention. I'm hoping we can recruit DSNC volunteers to buy groceries, cook (at the church or our own homes), and serve a hearty meal for 30-40 people (but we should plan on 50-60 servings once guests have seconds.) Date TBD based on volunteers' availability and the Project Soup calendar. Please let me know if you are interested in participating.

Best,
Louisa & the Program Committee

Great ideas. I hope I can join in on most events.
Thanks for planning then.

I would be interested in helping with the meal project with Somerville homeless coalition!

Hi Louisa
Thanks for getting back to me and explaining a little more about what this involves.
I obviously came in with a bunch of assumptions and I’m not sure this will be the right fit.
I envisioned lots of volunteers that were already set up and that I could just make soup on occasion Mondays that would feed 50 to 60 people. Obviously helping with serving and cleanup.

What I’m not able to do is lots of coordination and organizing given my schedule.
I have a very easy but very yummy soup recipe and I thought I could just do that. I didn’t realize a whole meal was involved and would involve coordination and grocery shopping for the entire meal.
So sorry I do not have more time and flexibility to accommodate what you’re needing
If you do end up getting a bunch of volunteers and you would welcome my soup as well as serving/cleanup please feel free to reach out.
Warmly,
Amy
