Benches removed from Community Path

Tonight I noticed the benches at the Thorndike Street entrance of the Community Path have been removed. Does anyone know if this is due to construction work (which I thought was limited to Cambridge?) or similar, or if the city is trying to solve the problems in our parks with hostile architecture instead of enhanced social services?
