882 Broadway

Drove past the old Garden Room Club on Broadway (at Powderhouse) and there were signs/QR codes in the windows. Looks like there is some progress on developing this.   QR codes led to this site, which is asking for community feedback on the site: https://www.cypresspathways.com/882broadway/ 

This has been vacant for at least 30 years (I think it may have been open a few times when we first moved here long ago)  It would be great to have this as another music/performance venue, perhaps with expanded housing above.

So back in 2012 I was in negotiations to take that space to open a restaurant/lounge.  There was a small art deco lounge on the left (still there) and a large Ballroom/function room on the right side, that eventually had to come down due to structural issues (there had been roof issues that had been let go and resulting water damage made it structurally unsound). The family that owned it had a trust that ran the upstairs apartments,  but the downstairs was being run by a quirky sibling named Dee. Eventually he was going to have to find someone with deep enough pockets to gut it and bring it up to code, or tear down the Ballroom, which a few years later he ended up doing. He really wanted to reopen the space as a Ballroom/lounge and relive the glory days, but it was too much of a project to get done.  I'll try to find my pics of the place and share them.

It’s been unused as a venue since we moved here in 1991, although there were people living on the top floors.  It’s always been mysterious.

I've been living in this building since 2009! There are four apartment units, two each on the 2nd & 3rd floors. But I've never been inside the first floor or basement.

Definitely fill out the linked survey! I don't even really care what goes in there, it just would be nice to put it to some use. I believe there was a plan to put in condo units at some point but the architect ran into zoning issues.
