Good Day Members,

I'm a recent new member interested in machining and automation. From what I gather, there are 11 threads on Robotics ,16 threads on Internet of Things, and overlaps of aforementioned threads when searched for Microcontroller (30 threads). There is recent discussion of reviving robotics on Thursdays here: https://groups.google.com/g/dsmhackerspace/c/2c3E1e0_0-w/m/olBc8TKCCgAJ.

I am willing to take the lead on related subjects, if only to get it jump started, with some stipulations. So here is what I am proposing; Programming language for both robotics/internet of things be in Python - resources, forums, and volume of active people makes this a viable option, I'll will bring a whiteboard and easel to organize session's topic, agenda, project & etc - recommend participants take photo of whiteboard and rewrite whiteboard contents down on a paper (memory retention and retrieval),  and More Importantly, Participant Derived Work-Session - more in next paragraph.

Reply to this post with ideas, whether it be projects, programming, or computer networks and days which work best. I will expand and focus the responses with poster(s) and any other responder(s). If there is enough responses, it will be coalesced into a session. I will respond to this post with an example reply some time soon. There are many persons with different backgrounds, interests and experiences. I hope to meet as many of you through this process.

My availability and related stuffs. I am available on this forum. Physically, my availability is most weekday late afternoons and evenings. Thus most session will be scheduled during those times. I work the weekends and go to school weekday mornings and afternoons. I am on various school clubs; Tool & Die and Programming Language. I have a Raspberry Pi 4 board. I am waiting on a PiCrawler, and PiSensor kits to ship to me. I utilize shell scripting (bash) and interpreted programming language (R, Python).  I am a Linux/Windows user.

Because I will and have invested in this thread I hope to recruit/attract persons not already involved with Area515.org. Time frame when first session to be held no later than 45 days. Whether the first session is participant derived or one that I put together, I will at least lead one session.  I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. May calendar years 2023 and beyond be transformative years!

I may come to these, but I'll keep using C, Not sure MicroPython would leave the space on the microcontrollers I use to do some of the functionality I'm shooting for.

I may come also. I mostly use Arduino, but I do have a pi, and picamera among other things.

Awesome Robert. Thanks for stepping up! Are you thinking about discussing an embedded project with MicroPython or CircuitPython? Or are you working with C-Python on Embedded Linux? Both are cool, but they each spark different conversations.

We have a large collection of modified Beagle Bone Black boards we could use for a group Linux project if anyone is interested. (Or I could simply point out the modification for anyone who wants to use one for their own thing.)

I am not sure when the next event is, but it would be cool if we joined the Iowa Robot Fighting League as a team at their next qualifier:

Very interested, didn't know this existed around here!
Already considering a horizontal beater bar, ol' Minotaur really impressed me.

It looks like there is a monthly Robotics Club meetup event Thursday, February 9 2023 19:00. I'll be there tinkering with PiCrawler, Robot Operating System (ROS) and plan out a MRCA event timeline and requirement if there is more interest with robot combat competition.

Resurrecting, I'm signed up for the MRCA Kansas City Bot Combat on May 20th:
https://buildersdb.com/KCBCMay2023

I'm on the fence about driving down that morning or staying in KC the night before. Anyone interested in tagging along, let me know.

I started off with a kit and doing some changes, I'm a fixer more than a maker. Chase my own design next year, the kit opened my eyes to plenty of things already.

Already beat on my living room floor. :D

Plan to put together a test box soon, and chase easy storage.
