If you're using an aerosol spray can - spray paint, WD40, brake clean etc, if you're not holding the can upright you're going to be just spraying out the propellant, and you'll be left with half a can of un-usable product.

Also with spray paint cans, you may need to clean off the nozzle, you can hold the can upside down and do a short burst of propellant to help.

Shake the can, spray with the can upright. Read the directions. Do the things.
